Morgan Earns IPS Test
Lighthouse Point, Florida (October 15th, 2007): Recently crowned F2000 Series Champion, Cole Morgan, will receive an Indy Pro Series test from Championship winning team Sam Schmidt Motorsports. The 19 year old Floridian will be given the chance to pilot the 450 horsepower IPS car around the famed Sebring circuit on October 22nd. His test will be part of the Indy Pro Series and Sam Schmidt Motorsports “Champions Test”, given to various Champions looking to move up the open-wheel ranks. “I am so grateful for this opportunity. Sam Schmidt has built the most dominant team in IPS, and to be able to test with them is a dream come true. It really shows how committed Sam is to open-wheel racing in the US, people as generous as him are few and far between in such a cut-throat sport,” said a jubilant Morgan. “I am confident I can adapt to the car quickly and perform very well at Sebring. I know I will be working with the best equipment available and hopefully we will have a very successful test. I think I can show what a great training ground the Hankook F2000 Series is as it has fully prepared me for the next step in my career.” Morgan dominated the Hankook F2000 Series scoring 6 wins in 10 races and the 2007 Championship, even after missing the first 2 races at VIR. He won races at Road Atlanta and Mid-Ohio and also swept the Watkins Glen and Lime Rock rounds.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to test Cole Morgan in partnership
with the Indy Pro Series as a reward for winning the Hankook F2000 Championship,"
said team owner Sam Schmidt. "With the IPS doing a greater mix of road
course events, the future stars of the IndyCar Series will be required to
have a solid road racing background. Cole is a proven race winner in karting
and the F2000 ranks, so he is a perfect candidate for IPS in 2008. Personally,
offering this test is very rewarding as I only wished this type of opportunity
was available when I won the FC National Championship in 1993. I applaud
series organizers for making this happen."
Sam Schmidt Motorsports is the dominating team in the Indy Pro Series, having
won 3 out of the last 4 Driver Championships on the strength of 22 victories
and multiple records.
